The main function of the VMIVME-HSD is to provide a high-performance 32-bit DMA link between the VMEbus and Encore HSD Interbus Link (IBL). It integrates the 68430 DMA controller chip to perform DMA transfers and provides the necessary logic to control transfers to and from the Encore HSD. In addition, the VMIVME-HSD contains logic that implements the VMEbus interrupter, as well as logic that allows the VMEbus to interrupt the Encore HSD.

The VMIVME-HSD / -HSDA provides a high-performance 32-bit DMA link between the VMEbus and the Encore HSD Model 9132 and Encore Model 9136 Interbus links (IBL).
