The MVI56E-LDM is a Linux development module from Allen-Bradley's encompass partner company, Prosoft Technology. This module is primarily used to implement custom Linux-based solutions and applications for integration with ControlLogix controllers via an integrated application Program interface (API). The module is equipped with a dedicated 400MHz ARM9 G20 processor and supports Linux (kernel 2.6.33.7) and Linux distributions of Timesys. It has built-in 64 MB SDRAM and 256MB NAND flash memory, two (2) separate Ethernet ports, and two (2) separate RS232/422/485 combined ports. The MVI56E-LDM also comes with a Linux virtual machine (VM) and development environment, which can be accessed through the module manufacturer's website. The virtual machine provides a toolchain and libraries and leverages the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The module is a single slot module with a fanless design and a scrolling LED display with a scrolling function for viewing custom messages such as alerts, status, etc. The backplane current consumption of the module is 800 mA at 5 VDC and 3 mA at 24 VDC. It installs LE status indicators, such as (ERR) application driver, (APP) application driver, and (OK) application driver status.
