Allen-Bradley and ProSoft Technology's PLX31-IP-MBS4 gateway device is a gateway for industrial systems, allowing it to communicate with more devices over more communication protocols than it could use alone. The PLX31-EIP-MBS4 gateway is a multi-protocol gateway that works as a standalone device in the system and is mounted on a DIN rail. It has 4 built-in serial communication ports. Note that when the PLX31-EIP-MBS4 gateway first arrives and is installed, not all 4 ports are enabled. It is up to the user to decide which ports will be enabled and for which protocol. Disabling unwanted ports or leaving arrived ports in a disabled state in that state saves energy and makes the configuration process simpler and faster.
Allen-Bradley and ProSoft Technology PLX31-IP-MBS4 gateway devices require at least 128 RAM to support their protocols, but 256 MB of RAM is recommended. The gateway is also compatible with a VGA graphics adapter with 256 colors in graphics, with a recommended resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels with true color graphics. The PLX31-EIP-MBS4 gateway device comes with an Ethernet port in addition to four serial ports and comes with a mini screwdriver, a power connector, four DB9s for the screw terminal adapter, and four RJ45 DB9M serial adapter cables for mounting and connecting the gateway device. There are also three pairs of jumper pins on the back of the gateway, which users can configure to support different modes of operation.
