The National Instruments GPIB-422CV MicroGPIB IEEE 488 To/From RS-422 converter provides a way to connect devices with an RS-422 port to the IEEE 488 bus (GPIB). The GPIB-422CV transparently converts data between the two ports, so no control codes or special commands are required. The GPIB-422CV also increases the efficiency of the interface system by isolating slower devices from faster ports through a character buffer. This buffer is used to uninstall the host during printer and plotter applications.

The GPIB-422CV is capable of connecting a GPIB controller or GPIB device to a computer or instrument via an RS-422 port. It can be used to connect a GPIB device to a computer with an RS-422 port, or to connect an RS-422 device such as a printer or plotter to a GPIB network. Data can be transmitted in either direction at any time.
