The NI SCXI-1521 (Part number: 777966-21) is ideal for high-channel applications. The quarter-bridge strain gauge input module can multiplex its signal into a channel that controls the DAQ instrument. Users can add more modules to increase the number of channels. There is also a 10 Hz, 2 pole Butterworth filter. The user can program the excitation in a range of 1,024 levels from 0 to 5 V. The 10 Hz, 2 pole Butterworth filter provides low-pass filtering to block noise and guarantee accurate measurements. The module also has a powerful calibration function.

Each of the 24 analog input channels on the SCXI-1521 module has a circuit for eliminating the bridge offset voltage. The driver software zeroes out the offset voltage in seconds. Users do not have to manually modify the potentiometer. When users use measurement hardware to get rid of this offset, they will achieve higher measurement resolution.

The SCXI 1521 module has an onboard calibration EEPROM that stores calibration constants for each channel. Traditional NI-DAQ and NI-DAQmx use calibration constants to adjust the gain and offset errors of each channel. Accurate and reliable shunt calibration resistors on each channel can be used to programmatically simulate the effect of load on the strain gauge to compensate for strain gauge errors. The shunt calibration resistor is located inside the NI SCXI-1521 strain/bridge input module. Users can activate or deactivate the shunt resistor using software commands.
