The MTL830 series multiplexer with the Modbus@ output provides a cost-effective alternative to single-loop isolation. The cost of installing cabling is reduced by 50% by transmitting inputs from multiple hazardous-area sensors via dual data highways. Further savings can be achieved by reducing the number of inputs, cabinet space, and weight of the host. Multiplex transmitter, installed in hazardous areas, meets thermocouple, RTD and mV analog inputs. Compatible safe zone receiver provides in-line Modbus@ output feeds to host PLC,PC or DCS controller.

Dual data highways between the transmitter and receiver allow continuous normal operation with only one highway connected. A highway cable IS a pair of wires in a simple double-grain or IS multi-core cable that can transmit power and data simultaneously over a distance of up to 2 km. If the multiplexed transmitter is located in a hazardous area, each data highway must be protected by an MTL3052 digital isolator
