The Emerson/MOTOROLA MVME-5100 single-board computer is a high-performance VME module with MOTOROLA's PowerPlus II architecture and a choice of processors - MOTOROLA's MPC7400 or AltiVec's MPC7410. Or low power MPC750 or MPC755 processors. The MVME5100 integrates a highly optimized PCI interface and memory controller to achieve memory read bandwidth of up to 582MB and burst write bandwidth of 640MB.
The MVME5100 interfaces with the VMEbus system through its P1 and P2 connectors and contains two IEEE 1386.1 PCI Sandwich card (PMC) slot machines. The PMC slot is 64-bit and supports both front-end and back-end I/O. In addition, the MVME5100 can be configured with jumpers by the user through onboard Settings. Two I/O modes are possible :PMC mode and single-board mode. There are two variants of this SBC mode :IPMC761 and IPMC712. These variations depend on which IPMC module is being used. The SBC/IPMC761 utilizes the IPMC761 and MVME761 transition modules to provide 761-style rear I/O capability. The SBC/IPMC712 leverages the IPMC712 and MVME712M transition modules to provide 712-style back-end I/O functionality. The SBC mode is generally backward compatible, depending on the IPMC and transition module pairing, with modules and P2 adapter cards on the equivalent transition MVME2600/MVME2700 product line. This mode is implemented by connecting the IPMC7xx PMC to PMC slot 1 and configuring the Ethernet port of the auxiliary MVME5100 to the rear replacement module through the jumpers on the configuration board and the following methods. Everywhere this manual SBC pattern describes two variants, unless the difference is specifically stated, in which case the variant is further identified as SBC/IPMC761 or SBC/IPMC712.
