The MRU is suitable for any offshore operation that requires attitude determination and motion compensation. Kongsberg's range of motion sensors provides high precision motion measurement in all dynamic environments. Kongsberg's MRU uses a solid-state gyroscope and accelerometer to provide real-time motion measurement with high dynamic accuracy. The state-of-the-art design, construction and assembly of the MRU makes it extremely reliable in the most demanding Marine environments.

Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) -based gyroscopes have been implemented in many different variants over the past 25 years, and a constant focus on innovation and ingenuity has resulted in ever-increasing cost performance. As a result, MEMS-based gyroscopes today challenge "easily worn" mechanical gyroscopes, as well as those based on fiber optic (FOG) technology. The gyroscope developed by Kongsberg, optimized for use at the high end of the Kongsberg Motion Reference Unit (MRU) product family, is a defining example of MEMS-based gyroscope design, demonstrating a new level of performance for the technology.
