The Field Control Processor 270 (FCP270) is a distributed, optional fault-tolerant field installation controller module. The FCP270 performs regulation, logic, timing and sequence control in conjunction with the connected fieldbus module. It also performs data acquisition and alarm detection and notification. The FCP270 connects to the MESH control network via standard fiber 100mbps Ethernet. The fault-tolerant version of FCP270 consists of two processor modules. These modules are installed in adjacent FCP270 slots to support the FCP270 baseboard, enabling high-speed communication between modules (see Figure 1).
The FCP270 flattens and simplifies the Foxboro Evo process automation system architecture, requiring only field enclosures, workstations, and Ethernet switches. The field-installed FCP270 is an integral part of a highly distributed control network, with the controller closely aligned with specific process units installed near its I/O and the actual equipment being controlled. Coordination between processing units takes place over fiber 100mbps Ethernet. The FCP270 is housed in a robust die-cast aluminum housing and requires no ventilation due to its efficient design. The FCP270 is CE certified and can be installed without expensive special cabinets to prevent electronic emissions. The FCP270 can be installed in harsh G3 environments.
