The Allen-Bradley 1756-L74 is a programmable automation controller (PAC) for plant and process automation requirements. The controller is designed to meet the requirements of today's industrial automation requirements.
The 1756-L74 is a single slot width controller with a compact component design. It is a chassis based device that is powered internally by a backplane power supply assigned to the electronics circuitry in the chassis. The controller is compatible to be installed in all available cases manufactured for ControlLogix systems, Examples include 1756-A4, 1756-A4K, 1756-A7, 1756-A7K, 1756-A10, 1756-A10K, 1756-A13, 1756-A13K, 1756-A17, 1756-A17 K. The 1756-L74 is an environmentally friendly controller because it uses energy storage modules instead of batteries to store the contents of random access memory (RAM).
The energy storage module is capacitor based, which means that the RAM memory is retained by the energy stored inside the capacitor. These energy storage modules are removable and replaceable. For this controller, the 1756-ESMCAP is pre-installed, while other compatible modules include 1756-ESMNSE, 1756-ESMNSEK, 1756-ESMNRM, and 1756-ESMNRMK.
The 1756-L74 is equipped with 16MB of user memory, 0.98MB of I/O memory, and 1GB of non-volatile memory via the 1784-SD1. The non-volatile memory can be expanded to 2GB by replacing the existing unit 1784-SD2, 2GB secure digital (SD) card.
The 1756-L74 communicates via a built-in USB communication port, however, this port is not suitable for industrial communication. For the above purposes, users can install additional communication adapters that support specific communication protocols, such as EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Data Highway Plus, remote I/O, SynchLink, and third-party process and device networks.
