Allen-Bradley 1769-ADN is a CompactLogix I/O DeviceNet adapter module. It is an open low-level networking module that connects simple industrial devices, such as actuators and sensors, with advanced devices, such as computers and PLC controllers. It uses the well-known Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) to provide various functions for industrial equipment, such as control, data collection and configuration. It connects low-level devices directly to the factory floor controller instead of interfacing through an I/O module. Data is sent through this module as needed. The 1769-ADN adapter module has maximum DeviceNet communication rates of 125 Kbps (500 m), 250 Kbps (250 m), and 500 Kbps (100 m). It has a maximum of 30 I/O nodes. It consumes 500 mA (Series A) and 5 mA (Series B) at 450 volts DC. It measures 4.65 x 1.97 x 3.43 inches. It weighs 0.6 pounds.
The module has a current consumption of 25 mA at 90 volts DC and 24 to 11 volts DC. It has an isolation voltage of 30 volts and a power consumption of 4.7 watts. For mounting, it uses a DIN rail or panel mounting method with an open housing and requires a slot in the CompactLogix case. The adapter should not be more than 4 modules (Series A) or 5 modules (Series B) away from the power supply. This adapter can be installed next to any 1769 compact I/O module. However, the power distance rating, i.e. 4, must be met. This means that the module cannot be installed above the Frou (4) module away from the power supply. When used with the MircoLogix 1500, the module is installed next to or adjacent to the base unit.
Typical problems occur when 1769-AND is not installed correctly, especially with the 1769 CompactLogix component. When installing the 1769-ADN adapter into a CompactLogix system, the bus connector must be firmly locked to establish an electrical connection. If you feel resistance while securing the module, release the module and check that the PIN connector is properly aligned before continuing the connection.
