Allen-Bradley 1756-DNB is a DeviceNet Scanner module that connects to the ControlLogix system. It acts as a bridge to collect data from the DeviceNet module and then passes a copy of the information to the controller and vice versa. With the 1756-DNB scanner module, users can expect DeviceNet communication rates to default to 125 KB per second, 250 KB per second, and 500 KB per second. It has DeviceNet node addresses from 00 to 63, with the default setting of node addresses 63 and a maximum of 64 nodes. It is only compatible with the Logix5550 controller. This particular module acts as a gateway between the DeviceNet device and the network to read inputs and write outputs from the device, download configuration data, and monitor the operating status of the device.

When controllers are involved, Allen-Bradley 1756-DNB will communicate in the form of diagnostic tables, inputs, and outputs. I/O Configuration data, status information, and I/O data of the switching device. This module communicates with another device using strobe, polling, status change, and/or loop messages. These messages are used to collect data from each device or deliver data to each device. The data received from the device is then organized and provided to the controller (input data), and the data received from the controller is sent to the device (output data). The 1756-DNB has a current consumption of 400 mA at 5.1 volts DC, while it remains at 24 mA when the current consumption is 0 volts DC. The module has a power consumption of about 3.5 watts and a heat dissipation of 11.9 BTU/ hour. The module can be installed in any available chassis slot and used with RSNetWorx.
