Allen-Bradley 1797-IE8 is a Flex Ex analog input module. The module has an intrinsically safe (IS) input type, The rating is Ex ia IIB/IIC T4 AEx ia IIC T4 Class I, II, III Class 1 Group A-G T4 and intrinsically safe module type Ex ib IIB/IIC T4 AEx ib IIC T4 Class I, II, III Class 1 Group A-D T4.

1797-IE8 has eight (8) non-isolated analog input channels. Each channel is individually configured to receive 0-20 mA and 4-20 mA signals with 16-bit resolution. It internally converts analog data into digital data with a configurable data format. The module has an accuracy of 0.1% of the output signal range at 20 °C (68 °F) and a temperature drift of 0.05%/C of the output signal range.

The fastest update time of these modules is about 200 milliseconds, and the worst update time is about 1600 microseconds. This update rate is largely dependent on the distance of the module from the communication adapter.

The 1797-IE8 is designed with an internal diagnostic function that enables the module to detect alarms, such as lead break detection, over/under range alarms, and remote transmitter alarms.

1797-IE8 requires an equally rated terminal base. Compatible terminal mounts include 1797-TB3 or 1797-TB3S. It cannot be used with standard Flex I/O terminal mounts. When establishing an I/O connection to the terminal base, the recommended wire size is 4mm2 (12 AWG) and twisted copper wire. In addition, the recommended insulation thickness is 1.2 mm (3/64 inch). The key switch of the module is assigned to position 3.
