The CI868A can be used to connect AC 800M controllers to external Ethernet devices using the IEC 61850-2nd edition standard. Since this is the standard for substation automation, it is possible to combine process automation and electrical control in the same controller.

The TP868 baseboard has two RJ45 Ethernet connectors, of which the CH1 connector can use either 10Mbps or 100Mbps (megabits per second). The baseplate has a combination lock that prevents incorrect type of equipment from being installed to the TP867 baseplate.
