The REF542plus multifunctional protection and switch room control unit is a further development of the former REF542 unit. Like its predecessor, it has the following features:

All of the above functions and power quality functions are integrated in a programmable environment. The superior flexibility and scalability of these new generation devices has resulted in a smart and clean solution where traditional methods would have been ineffective and expensive. The following figure shows an example of ref542 + installation in several switchboards.

As shown in Figure 3, the REF542plus consists of two parts, a central unit and a separate human machine interface (HMI). The central unit contains power, processor, analog and binary input/output (I/O) modules, as well as optional modules for complementary functions.

The HMI control unit is an independent unit with its own power supply. It can be installed on a low voltage (LV) cabin door or in a dedicated cabin close to the central unit. The HMI is typically used to set protection parameters and perform local operations on switchgear in the switchgear cabinet. The HMI is connected to the central unit through shielded isolated twisted pair cables over the RS485 port. Figure 4 shows the installation of the central unit and the HMI control unit in the low-voltage chamber of the switchboard

The REF542plus multifunctional protection and switching control unit integrates all secondary functions in a single unit. This multifunctional device also has a self-monitoring function. All functions are designed as freely configurable software modules. Therefore, the various operational requirements of the medium voltage station can be met without any problems. The versatility of the software makes it possible to use REF542plus independently on each panel, without depending on the specific application required.
