The unit is part of Woodward's load sharing unit. The unit is designated as a synchronous and droop load distribution unit for model 9907-173. These units were developed and manufactured to attach and mount on Caterpillar model engines and are equipped with production-like digital speed components. These engines handle pulse width modulation inputs. This also allows for the integration of other Woodward-produced parts when Woodward load distribution modules are connected to it. It also divides the load distribution between the Caterpillar engine and the speed control module and the Woodward electronic control unit.
The required power intake for this module ranges from a minimum intake of 18 to 32 V/DC, or 5 watts. It has reverse voltage protection up to -32 V/DC, and undervoltage and overvoltage protection up to 80 V/DC. There are PT and CT three-phase inputs. PT inputs require 100 to 240 V/AC wire-to-wire, while CT inputs require 3 to 7 A Rms at full load. It should be noted that the equipment can only be used if it contains an engine prime mover system that complies with the requirements of the said directive and the CE marking.
