The unit is one of several models in Woodward's DSLC series or digital synchronizer and load control series. These models are a series of control modules for AC, three-phase, and industrial generators. The unit is designated as Model 99005-288 and is considered obsolete in the DSLC series.

The 9905-288 unit is designed as a multifunctional device capable of controlling multiple aspects and functions of the industrial generator to which it is attached. The unit contains a control sensor, a load control module and a synchronizer. It provides the operator with the option to choose automatic slip frequency synchronization or phase matching.

The unit's control sensor locates and detects true RMS power levels within the generator and provides bump-free load/unload functionality. Loading can be done either at the base amount or with separate functions such as import/export and processing.

The 9905-288 unit is similar in design to the more advanced model 9905-795 in the family. The main difference between these units is the function that the other unit does not have.
