Part 8280-604 is a digital controller in the 723PLUS series. The unit has many of the standard features of Woodward series controllers, including some configurations that make the 8280-604 suitable for a variety of applications. 8280-604 complies with CE standard and CSA certification. The Woodward model 8280-604 has multiple user-configurable communication ports. RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 communication is supported through two separate serial interfaces. Two LON channels can be used to connect LinkNet nodes to expand the controller's I/O ports. Alternatively, LON channels can be used for Woodward LONTalk.

This 723PLUS controller is a low voltage model with an external power supply. The low-voltage 723PLUS control model has a rated power supply rated at 18-40 Vdc (nominal 24 or 32 Vdc) and requires 40 W. A high voltage 723PLUS control model is also available.

The 8280-604 can use one or two proximity switches or magnetic pickups (MPUs). Each option has a slightly different frequency range. The MPU can be used in a speed input frequency range from 400 Hz to 15 kHz. The range of the approach switch is 30 Hz to 15 kHz. 30 Hz is the minimum frequency for steady-state speed control.
