The Model 8280-466 speed control offers a range of customizable parameters that make it suitable for a wide range of applications. The controller is part of the Woodward 723PLUS digital speed control family and is one of the few controllers in the family designed specifically for low-speed engines. The 8280-466 is a low voltage speed controller (18 to 40 Vdc input voltage) designed for use in reciprocating engines rated at 130 rpm or less.
The 8280-466 provides load control and has speed offset inputs to support DSLC digital synchronizer and load control. Three other versions of this DSLC compatible controller (Low voltage, High voltage and High voltage, Low Speed) are also available, and details can be found in the 723PLUS Reciprocating Engine Digital Speed Control - DSLCTM Compatible Installation and Operation Manual Product Manual 02878.
There are several discrete and analog I/ OS on the controller, including two-speed signal inputs to handle magnetic pickups or proximity switches depending on application requirements. I/O has different levels of configurability, details of which can be found in manual 02878.
Parameter setting and other 8280-466 configuration and monitoring are done via a handheld programmer (Woodward Accessories, Part 9907-205) or PC-based Watch Window software. Both are menu-based, keeping the process simple and manageable regardless of the operator's programming experience.
