The Model 8280-141 is a low-voltage version of the Woodward 723PLUS analog load sharing digital speed control. This digital speed control is used to control the load and speed of the reciprocating engine in the operation of the generator set.

This includes those connectors with elastic couplers, as the speed signal input on the 8280-414 supports the use of proximity switches (speed signal frequencies below 1000 Hz) or magnetic pickers (minimum 400 Hz magnetic pick frequency). Other control options include series actuator outputs, 0-1 or 4-20 mA analog outputs, or 4-20 or 0-200 mA actuator outputs.

723PLUS Part 8280-414 is CSA certified (Class I, Zone 2, Groups A, B, C and D). According to Governor Woodward, when the controller is put into service according to the instructions outlined in the product manual, the controller meets the requirements of EN50081-2 and EN50082-2.

The low-voltage model 8280-414 has a nominal power consumption of 40 W and requires a voltage source of 18 to 40 Vdc. High-voltage models (8280-415, 8280-481) require a voltage source of 90 to 150 Vdc. Models 8280-480 and 8280-481 are low-speed versions of engines rated at 130 rpm or less. Apart from these voltage and engine speed rating differences, these three other models are identical to the 8280-414.
