Woodward ProTech 203 Model 9907-085 comes with three identical enclosed independent speed sensing units for monitoring prime mover speed and activating trip relays

The ProTech 203 overspeed protection model 9907-085 has an accuracy class of 2.25% point + 60 Hz in the operating temperature range (-0 to +05 °C). The device detects overspeed by using three independent speed sensing units to monitor the prime mover speed using a magnetic pickup (MPU).

The three units then perform their own speed calculations, and two-thirds of the hardware votes on whether to activate the trip relay. Two units are needed to detect overspeed conditions causing the system to trip. Detection from only one unit will trip that unit, but the other two will take over control of the process and the device will continue to operate. The total system response time from speed sampling to tripping relay activation is up to 40 ms.
