The ProTech 203 Overspeed Protection system electronic overspeed trip device is used to read and relay three separate magnetic pickups. Model number 9907-082

A magnetic pickup (MPU) continuously monitors the prime mover speed in Woodward Overspeed protection. The speed is sampled every 5 milliseconds, three separate speed calculations are performed, followed by a two-thirds vote. If the results of this hardware poll detect overspeed, the trip relay is activated. Overall, the total response time for this process is up to 40 milliseconds.

The Type 9907-082 is a 220 V AC system. Each of the three speed sensing units in this model has its own 220 Vac power supply (180-264 Vac, 7.25 W voltage range). Since this is a power-on trip model, power-off does not automatically cause prime mover trip. The Woodward ProTech manual 85203 contains additional safety information for this model.

The same modular design that allows a two-thirds voter relay configuration also supports several other features. The overspeed protection model 9907-082 has a built-in frequency generator that allows the operator to test individual units without taking the prime mover offline.
