The 9905-999 Woodward ProTech 203 consists of three identical independent speed sensing units that continuously monitor the prime mover speed and activate the trip relay when overspeed conditions are detected.
Product Model 9905-999 is a 120 Vac/dc overspeed protection device. This is a Woodward ProTech power-off trip model in which the trip relay status is determined by a two-thirds vote performed by the model's three speed sensing units. These units monitor the prime mover speed via a magnetic pickup (MPU).
The overspeed protection system has a jump point frequency range of 250 Hz to 25 kHz. The speed sensing frequency range is 100 Hz to 32 kHz.
The unit is programmed using three operating interfaces on the front panel of the model 9905-999. Each speed sensing unit has an interface, each with its own LCD, keyboard, LED indicator and potentiometer knob.
The three units in the model 9905-999 system are identical. They are connected in a two-thirds voting configuration, which means that at least two units of overspeed detection are required to prompt the trip relay to take the operation offline. If overspeed is detected, any device will trip, but no single unit will trip the entire system.
One benefit of this design is that this overspeed protection can handle the thermal replacement of a single unit. As long as the other two are online and functioning properly, the system will remain online and provide accurate output. This also allows for a built-in self-check function, as models 9905-999 will operate with two unit controls.
