Part 99005-996 Overspeed protection devices have an electrified trip voter relay configuration. During normal operation, the voter relay is powered off. The locked shell of this model has passed the IP 65 authentication.

Inside the locked housing is a key switch for accessing the programming modes of the three speed sensing units. This prevents unauthorized access to the programming and testing functions of Model 9905-996. Adjustable parameters can be set when the device is in program mode.

ProTech models 9905-996 can be set to trip speed setpoints from 250 rpm to 25,000 rpm and Magnetic pickup (MPU) fault setpoints from 100 rpm to 25,000 rpm. This overspeed protection model has a jump point frequency range of 250 Hz to 25 kHz. Complete product specifications are in Woodward ProTech manual 85196.

If a speed sensing unit detects overspeed, the unit will trip. If at least two speed detection units detect overspeed conditions, two-thirds of the hardware votes trigger the trip relay to take the prime mover offline. When the trip relay is activated, a code is displayed on the operator interface LCD of the trip device, and the LED indicator lights up and triggers the alarm output.
