In the Woodward family of ProTech 203 overspeed protection systems, the Model 9905-994 has a variety of features that make it a logical choice for overspeed protection applications. This power-off trip device is designed to allow thermal replacement of individual speed sensing units, of which there are three. These units can also be tested individually without taking the prime mover offline, and the stroke of only one unit does not stop the overall operation of the system.

Each unit must be reset before the turbine starts and after tripping. The Model 9905-994 has a remote reset function, so the device can be reset from a location far away from the device itself.

The three speed sensing units in ProTech model 9905-994 are almost identical. They are all designed to operate in the same way, using magnetic pickups (MPUs) to monitor the prime mover speed, perform independent speed calculations, and perform two-thirds of the hardware vote with the other two units. The only difference between these three units is the power supply.
