The Woodward Protech 203 overspeed protection model 9905-990 is designed as a power trip model and can operate on a power supply of 120 Vac/dc. This model is used to read the magnetic pickup and perform speed calculations.
The 9905-990 unit is manufactured by Woodward for its ProTech 203 family of overspeed protection systems. There are two different model types in the Protech series, power-to-travel and power-to-travel; Model 9905-990 is designed as a power trip model. Power-off trip models are the safest to use because they will ensure that if the connected prime mover is powered off, it will trip the device.
The Model 9905-990 has a number of features that make it an effective choice for overspeed protection. These three units A, B, and C are the same speed sensing units and can be tested individually or even replaced. ProTech models 9905-990 use a two-thirds hardware voting configuration, so the entire system can be kept running with at least two units online.
Prior to the hardware voting relay, the three units operated independently, using a magnetic pickup (MPU) to monitor the prime mover speed (sampled every 5 milliseconds) and perform speed calculations.
