With the ProTech 203 Model 9905-986 overspeed protection, the trip relay is activated when the two speed sensing units detect overspeed. There are three units in the device that use separate speed calculations and a two-thirds voting configuration. If only one device detects overspeed, that device trips, but the entire system stays online.

This Woodward overspeed protection monitors the prime mover speed via a magnetic pickup (MPU). The speed sensing units A, B and C each have their own MPU, as well as their own operator interface and their own 220 Vac power supply.

MPU functional status and overall system operation can be monitored on each unit's operating interface, which features a two-line LCD and touchpad. Here, you program tunable parameters, such as MPU fault setpoints and trip setpoints. If any device trips or any problems occur in the 9905-986 system, the LCD will also display an error code. If the speed sensing unit trips, the CPU fails, or the MPU fails, there is also an LED indicator to alert the operator to the problem. Certain events, such as activated trip relays, can also be set to trigger an alarm output.

The 9905-986 overspeed protection is located in a locking housing that is NEMA 4X certified when using optional stainless steel wheels.
