The Woodward ProTech 203 Unit 9905-984 digital overspeed tripping device senses the prime mover speed via three magnetic pickups (MPUs)
The front panel of the unit 9905-984 has three operating interfaces, one for each of the three identical speed sensing units. Each has a two-wire LCD, touchpad and potentiometer. Each unit A, B and C also has a separate 24V DC power supply.
These front panel operator interfaces are used to set parameters, monitor speed and operation, and display error codes. Each unit has a separate LED that indicates MPU failure (or its wiring failure), CPU failure, and unit tripping. For certain conditions, you can also set the alarm output.
Model 9905-984 is part of the ProTech 203 overspeed protection system family. The series is manufactured by Woodward. The ProTech 203 Model 9905-894 overspeed protection uses a magnetic pickup for speed sampling every 5 milliseconds, one in each speed sensing unit. From these speed samples, the units perform individual speed calculations, which are then used in a hardware two-thirds vote to determine whether the overspeed condition is met. If overspeed is detected, the trip relay is activated.
