Woodward Power-on ProTech 203 Overspeed trip device 9905-980 senses prime mover speed through three MPUs. Audible and visible alarm system.

There are three independent speed sensing units in the overspeed protection device. The units A, B, and C are the same. Each has:

Magnetic pickup (MPU) monitors prime mover speed

220 V AC power supply

The LCD displays nine parameters, such as the current speed of the device

Keyboard

Indicator Indicates the function status indicator

Alarm output

These three units are configured with two-thirds of the hardware voting to detect overspeed conditions and activate tripping relays if necessary. If only one of the three units detects an overspeed situation, the unit will trip, while the other two remain online and control the system and continue to provide accurate output. The 9905-980 is a power-off trip model.

The modular design of the 9905-980 components enables hot replacement, online testing of individual units, and continuous operation of single-trip units. Additional features of the ProTech 203 overspeed protection device include LED indicators, alarm output and a locking housing that complies with IP 65 and NEMA 4 standards.

The locked housing of the 9905-980 system helps prevent unauthorized access from switching between monitor mode and program mode. The system will run in either mode, but should only be put in PROGRAM mode if the device needs to be programmed or if any of the system's tunable parameters, such as trip speed setpoints and MPU failure setpoints, need to be changed.
