The Woodward Model 9905-884 ProTech 203 digital overspeed trip device senses the prime mover speed via three magnetic pickups (MPUs).
The Model 99005-884 uses a magnetic pickup (MPU) to sample the prime mover speed every 5 ms and monitor overspeed. If the condition is met, it causes the relay to trip. The 9905-884 system is one of the ProTech 203 series power trip models. The system's 0.1 percent (25 °C) accuracy rating and two-thirds voting configuration design give operators peace of mind.
The speed sensing units A, B, and C in Model 9905-884 are identical. Each has an operator interface and a 24 Vdc power supply. System programming is done through an operating interface with LCD and keyboard. To prevent unauthorized changes, use key switches to restrict access to program modes and test functions. Each interface also has an LED indicator and alarm output to alert the operator in case of device trip, MPU failure, CPU failure, and more.
Before the turbine can be started, each of the three units must be reset. Individual units must be reset after tripping (if the power supply restarts, no reset is required). The Model 9905-884 has a remote reset function to make this process easier.
Both the current speed and peak speed can be viewed on the device's LCD. If the peak speed exceeds the previously recorded peak speed, the peak speed is updated each time an overspeed situation occurs. If the new peak speed is the result of overspeed conditions (rather than a test), it is stored in non-volatile memory.

This manual also contains installation instructions and requirements that should be reviewed before installing Model 9905-884. The case of this model has optional stainless steel wheels. When using these cases, the housing complies with the NEMA 4X standard.
