Reduce system downtime with Woodward's ProTech 203 overspeed protection system. These systems continuously monitor the prime mover speed in order to activate the trip relay when overspeed conditions are detected. This version, model 9905-882, is a power-off trip system. The modular design of the ProTech 203 system both ensures a high level of accuracy (1.25% at 0 °C) and allows normal operation when other systems may require a complete system stop.

The Model 9905-882 uses a magnetic pickup (MPU) to monitor the prime mover speed. The speed calculation is performed by three independent speed sensing units connected in a two-thirds voting configuration. The three units that make up the 9905-882 are identical except for the power supply, as follows:

Unit A: 24 V DC

Cell B: 24 V DC

C Unit: 220 Vac

ProTech 203 Model 9905-882 works even if one of the speed sensing units is offline. This means that one unit can be tested at a time, and one unit can also be replaced if the prime mover is offline. If one of the units trips, the other two units will continue to provide accurate output. The speed sensing units will remain in the trip state until the power supply is cycled or reset, and each unit must be reset before the turbine can be started.
