The built-in self-check function provides continuous and reliable overspeed protection for this ProTech 203 model. As long as two of the three 9905-879 speed sensing units are operating properly, the prime mover can remain online. Both units will still provide accurate output.
This output is based on the results of a two-thirds vote of the calculation in each of the three cells, each with its own magnetic pickup (MPU). If overspeed is detected, the trip relay is activated. A single trip device does not inadvertently cause the turbine to trip. Device trips can be attributed to a variety of conditions, such as MPU or CPU failure, and you should consult manual 85191 (B) for a comprehensive troubleshooting guide.
Model 9905-879 is one of the power-off trip models in the Woodward Overspeed Protection System family. This is one of the models equipped with a 120 Vac/dc power supply for each of the system's three speed sensing units.
