The ProTech 203 system digital overspeed trip device 9905-876 reads three separate MPUs and performs three separate speed calculations.

Woodward's ProTech 203 overspeed protection system family is available in a number of versions. The Model 9905-876 is a power trip version, with all three speed sensors in the system equipped with 120 Vac/dc power supply (voltage range 88-132 Vac/ 90-150 Vdc, 7.25 W).

The Model 99005-876 works by performing three separate speed calculations based on readings from three separate magnetic pickup (MPU) that continuously monitor the prime mover speed. When two-thirds of the hardware votes detect overspeed conditions, the trip relay will be activated. Individual speed sensing units may trip due to overspeed conditions, MPU signal loss, or other conditions outside of normal operating parameters. Details are found in ProTech 203 Manual 85191 (version B).

The design of the Model 9905-876 allows the prime mover to stay online and two of the three units to maintain accurate output, thus avoiding unnecessary system downtime, so if a single unit trips, is being tested, or needs to be replaced, the entire system will remain operational.

The LED indicator is a separate group for each speed sensing unit, located on the front of the unit's operator interface. Each interface also has an LCD and touchpad.
