The 9905-874 is an overspeed protection system with three speed sensing units that continuously monitor and calculate the prime mover speed. All three units are packaged in the same locked housing, conforming to NEMA 4 and IP 65 standards. Each unit has its own power supply and operator interface. In Model 9905-874, two of the three units have a 120 Vac/DC power supply, and the third unit has a 220 Vac power supply. The two 120 Vac/dc units have a voltage range of 88-132 Vac/ 90-150 Vdc, 7.25W. The 220 Vac power supply unit has a voltage range of 180-264 Vac, 7.25W.

Each speed sensing unit uses its own magnetic pickup (MPU) and performs its own speed calculations. Thus, a two-thirds vote of the hardware is performed. If overspeed is detected, the trip relay is activated. This hardware voting method also allows testing or replacing any of the three units without taking the prime mover offline.

Each of the three operating interfaces on the 9905-874 cabinet has an LCD, keyboard, and LED to indicate the function status of the corresponding device. There are separate leds that indicate different problems, and certain problems (such as tripping devices) may also be alerted via the alarm output.
