There are three separate speed sensing units in the 9905-870 overspeed protection unit, all of which are kept in the same key-locked IP65-certified housing. These three identical units are configured in such a way that a single magnetic pickup (MPU) interfaces with each unit, and the individual speed calculations performed by each unit work together in a two-thirds hardware vote to determine if an overspeed situation has occurred.
In case of overspeed, the trip relay is activated. After the device trips, you need to reset or restart the power supply to restore the normal operation. In addition to detecting overspeed conditions, things such as MPU signal loss, interlock failure, or failure to reset before the turbine restarts can cause tripping. The three speed sensing units in the model 9905-870 are identical. Each unit is equipped with its own 120 Vac/dc power supply, and each unit has a separate operating interface with an LCD, touchpad, and functional status LED. On the LCD, the operator can see the actual speed of a single device, and the LED can quickly identify problems within the device, such as MPU failure or CPU operating improperly. Both the LED and alarm outputs are used to alert the operator that the device is tripping.
