The 756-203 units of the Woodward ProTech 9905 series are energized. Displays the actual speed of each speed probe, the maximum speed signal, and online tests using a modular design.

It is a powered trip digital overspeed protection device that uses three magnetic pickups (MPUs) to interface with three independent speed sensing units to continuously monitor the prime mover speed, sampling the prime mover speed every 5 ms. The maximum system response time is 40 milliseconds.

These three cells are in a two-thirds voting configuration, which is a hardware vote that occurs after performing three separate speed calculations. The 9905-756 system votes to drive its relay output based on this hardware. It should be noted that since this is one of the power-on trip models in the ProTech 203, the plugged relay will not start if the system loses input power.

The 9905-756 system encloses all three units in a locked enclosure, restricting access to PROGRAM mode by using key switches to prevent unauthorized changes or testing. LED indicators on the front panel (one panel per speed sensing device) provide a way to quickly catch when the MPU is failing, the device's CPU is starting up, or the device is tripping. There are separate leds to indicate individual problems, and each speed sensing unit has its own set of leds. Certain functional errors can also be set to trigger an alert output when certain conditions are detected.
