The Woodward ProTech 9905-754's Unit 203 electronic overspeed protection model 8200-201 features a 24V DC input, remote reset function, and trip alarm and LED.
Woodward offers a number of overspeed protection device versions in the company's ProTech 203 series. Model 9905-754 is one of the power trip models in this series. The three velocity sensing units in the model are identical. They all have 24Vdc input voltages ranging from 18-32 Vdc to 7.25 W. Since this is a power-on trip model, if the power to the 9905-754 system is interrupted, the plugged relay will not start. For more information on this and other product considerations, please refer to Woodward Manual 85196.
Each of the three speed sensing units interfaces with a separate magnetic pickup (MPU) to monitor the prime mover speed. If overspeed is detected, the trip relay is activated. This is done by a two-thirds hardware vote.
The 9905-754 overspeed protection system is designed to allow online testing, as the system only needs two units to function properly if needed. In addition to online testing and reduced downtime, this allows for the replacement of individual failing units without interrupting operations.
Each of the three units has a front panel with a touchpad, LCD, and functional status LED indicators. The actual speed of each unit can be viewed on the previous panel. It is through these operator interfaces that the unit is programmed and accessible only with a key.
