The Woodward ProTech 203 overspeed protection system offers a range of digital overspeed trip devices. These devices use three identical speed sensing units, configured to vote two-thirds of the hardware. Model 8200-211 is a power-off trip version with an input voltage of 220 Vac.

The 8200-211 system features a variety of protective measures to prevent overall equipment failure and system downtime.

A built-in frequency generator allows the prime mover to stay online while testing one speed detection unit at a time

In the case of a single unit tripping, the other two units remain in normal operation

Individual units can be replaced without interrupting operations

The three-out-of-two vote is based on three separate speed calculations

Each speed sensing unit has its own set of functional status LED indicators

The ProTech 8200-211 system has a speed sensing frequency range of 100 Hz to 32 kHz and a jump point frequency range of 250 Hz to 25 kHz. It has an accuracy rating of

± (0.05% x jump point, Hz +2 Hz).

All three speed sensing units are housed in the same keylock housing, preventing unauthorized access to programming and test functions. Each unit has its own front panel with a touchpad and a two-row LCD display that can be used to view the actual current speed of individual units.

If the overspeed condition is met and the device trips, a separate LED and alarm output will sound an alarm. When this happens, if the current speed is higher than the previously recorded peak speed, the system's peak speed is updated and stored in non-volatile memory. This continues even after the device has tripped.
