Model 8200-209 is ProTech 203 overspeed protection system. It can read three magnetic pickups, calculate the speed, and drive the relay output based on the collected results. The voltage input range associated with the 8200-209 device is 88-132 VAC or 90-150 VDC.

The Model 8200-209 is a 120 Vac/dc input, a power-off trip model designed by Woodward for the ProTech 203 overspeed protection series. When used in the right configuration, the system is compatible with different power supply combinations.

Through three independent magnetic pickups (MPUs), the device samples the prime mover speed every 5 ms. The 8200-209 system drives its relay output based on a two-thirds hardware vote, which is done by three identical speed sensing units, each performing its own speed calculation. Although these individual cells are connected to provide this hardware voting, the system is designed to operate with only two cells online.

The modular design of the Model 8200-209 includes a separate front panel for each of the three speed sensing units. The panel has a touchpad, a two-row LCD, and a set of LED indicators. The actual speed of each speed sensing unit can be viewed from the front panel of the device. In the case of overspeed conditions, if the current speed reaches above the previous peak speed, the peak speed is updated and stored in non-volatile memory. Updates and storage continue even after travel.

Another feature of the model 8200-209 is that it has configurable or programmable parameters. One example of a parameter is the current speed. The current speed parameter controls other parameters/setpoints, such as trip in case of MPU failure, MPU fault set point, and trip speed set point.
