The device is a digital overspeed protection device that utilizes three magnetic pickups connected to three independent speed detection units to continuously monitor the overspeed or signal loss of the prime mover speed. The Model 8200-205 is the 220 V AC input, power-off and trip version of the Woodward ProTech series.

These units can only switch between program and monitoring modes with keylocked access, preventing unauthorized changes. The ProTech 203 8200-205 system has two turbine start-up methods. One method provides separate start and reset functions; Another approach provides a combined start/reset function.
