This unit is designated as the VMIVME-7686 module of the VMIC device. The entire series was originally developed and manufactured by GE's Industrial Automation division, but after GE discontinued production, the modules were subsequently acquired and manufactured by Abaco Systems.

The VMIVME-7686 module is a Pentium Pro processor-based VMEbus CPU module in the VMIC family, capable of handling Ethernet up to 100 megabits at speeds up to 180 or 200 MHZ. The Pentium Pro processor's internal L2 cache size is capable of holding 256 to 512 KB of memory.

The VMIVME-7686 module is also equipped with and equipped with fast/wide Ethernet, SCSI and USB interface ports. There is also a parallel port, keyboard port, mouse connection port, and Super Video Graphics array port.
