The device is part of the VMIC device array, originally a family of GE's Industrial automation division. All of these products were subsequently discontinued from GE's equipment line and were later acquired by Abaco Systems and put back into production. AX Control's material inventory is fully refurbished and fully optimized to operate at the speeds required in today's standard industrial setup.

The VMIC material family varies in function and design and includes analog to digital converters, central processor boards, and digital input and output boards. The device is the VMIVME-7648, a single-board computer module that is fully integrated with the VMEbus attachment and designed with an Intel Pentium III processor as the processor module. The VMIVME-7648 unit is designed for processing speeds up to 1.26 GHz.

The unit's Pentium III processor is equipped with 32-bit addressing capabilities and a 64-bit data bus. The processor's superscalar architecture is designed to allow three separate functions to be performed in each clock cycle.
