The unit is part of the VMIC family of equipment from General Electric's industrial automation division, which was subsequently purchased and acquired by Abaco Systems, where it was extensively produced. These units were largely regarded as obsolete equipment and have since been completely discontinued. The VMIVME-6015 module is a four-channel serial input and output (I/O) interface board module.

This four-channel multifunctional peripheral interface board is designed with multiple standard VMIC functions within the unit. The VMIVME-6015 model is equipped with the necessary components to meet various serial data communication requirements in VMEbus systems. The basic function of the VMIVME-6015 is serial to parallel/parallel to serial controller.
