GE Fanuc IC697BEM742 Series 90-70 FIP Bus controller is an I/O bus controller that connects GE IC697 PLCS to FIP or World FIP I/O serial bus devices. The IC697BEM742 bus controller can also act as an I/O controller for GE Series 90-30 I/O modules in remote I/O nests and field control I/O modules in FIP bus networks. The IC697BEM742 FIP bus controller also provides advanced TCP/IP communication capabilities and universal messaging capabilities for connected devices. The IC697BEM742 bus controller provides software configuration without DIP switches and jumpers. It is configured with MS-DOS or Windows-based programming software. The IC697BEM742 bus controller has 6 LED status indicators on the front panel of the controller and also has a button located directly below the status LED.


The IC9BEM697 bus controller has two 742-pin bus connectors in front of it, which provide a connection point for 1 or 2 FIP buses, and since the signal on these buses is the same, they provide redundant bus functionality. The IC697BEM742 bus controller also has a 15-pin serial port that provides a connection point for personal computers for firmware upgrades. The IC697BEM742 bus controller asynchronously scans for I/O devices on the FIP bus and then transfers the I/O data to the CPU module once per scan. During the bus scan (macro cycle), the IC697BEM742 FIP bus controller sends CPU output data to connected devices, receives input data from each connected device, and receives and sends fault and alarm reports to the PLC. The IC697BEM742 bus controller has an operating voltage rating of 5 V DC and a maximum current consumption of 1.3 amps. It has a data transfer rate of 1 megabit per second and comes with 2 MB of RAM and flash memory.


The IC697BEM742 is a FIP bus controller (FBC) and a member of the IC697 family designed by GE Fanuc. The IC697BEM742 connects the FIP I/O serial bus to the IC697. The standard IC697 rack is available in two versions, classified as IC697BEM742 and IC697BEM744. Both versions have 2M of RAM and 2M of flash memory. The data rate of the IC697BEM742 is 1 Mbit/ s. The IC697BEM742's standout features include four FIP bus controllers per PLC system, two FIP bus channels responsible for redundant bus functions, an RS-485 serial port that connects to a PC for in-system firmware upgrades, and a button that helps reset and enables the bus controller to accept upgrades.


The IC697BEM742 FBC is also used to store configuration data to remote devices and report faults. Software configuration is assisted by the Windows programming software configuration function running on Windows 95 or Windows NT. FIP devices on the bus automatically report errors or any other form of predefined conditions to the PLC. The IC697BEM742 stores any diagnostic messages it receives. The IC697 CPU then automatically reads the distress message. The fault is eventually shown in the fault table using widow programming software and cleared from the programmer. The IC697BEM742 FBC can be installed in any I/O slot of the IC697 PLC system CPU rack. However, installation should not be attempted without reference to the relevant manuals and bus controller user guides.
