The GE Fanuc IC693CMM321 is an Ethernet interface module. By implementing this module in a 90-30 series PLC system, users can connect it to an Ethernet LAN. This is achieved through AAUI cables and external transceivers. This setup enables the PLC system to communicate with the host computer on the host computer as well as other control devices on the network. The IC693CMM321 interface module provides the client and server functions. Using the ladder diagram program through the COMMREQ function block, this module acts as a client to communicate with other PLCS that contain Ethernet interfaces. When acting as a server, the module responds only to requests. For example, it can respond to another 90-30 series PLC as a client.
Ethernet interface modules enable users to do many things, such as initiating data transfer from the device to the PLC and communicating with multiple devices connected to up to 16 servers at the same time. However, the IC693CMM321 does have some limitations, as the module does not support handheld programmers of any model in the 90-30 series, 20 series, or Micro series. Users can use the module with any 90-30 series system. By mounting one or two on the base plate, they can be used together. There is a restart button on the module, which actually has multiple functions in addition to restarting. It can run LED tests, has a restart and reload mode and the ability to restart and enter maintenance utilities. Whenever the front door of the module is closed, the restart button cannot be accessed.
