The IC693CMM301 is a Genius Communication Module (GCM), which is a smart module for the 90-30 series PLC and provides global connectivity on the Genius communication bus between the 90-30 series PLC and other GE Fanuc PLCS. By using Genius Bus controllers, the 90-70 series, six series and five series PLCS can communicate easily. 0-32 devices can be linked on the Genius bus. The Genius bus is connected to the terminal board in front of the GCM module. Genius communication modules can be placed on 90-30 series CPU backboards, expansion backboards, or remote backboards. In order to ensure the high performance of the IC693CMM301, the module should be set on the CPU backboard. Genius communication modules can be used for many applications, which may include: monitoring data via industrial computers and packet communication between devices on the bus.

The IC693CMM301 Genius Communications bus uses an anti-noise network to provide fast data transfer of real-time control data. The 90-30 series PLC is capable of Daisy chaining between devices with standard twisted pair cables, shielded cables, and connecting to each other via a Genius I/O serial bus at both ends. It is important to use the right cable to ensure good performance of the system. The LED indicator of the Genius communication module is located at the front. In normal operation, it is turned on to show the running status of the module. OK indicates the status of the GBC module, in which the LED is turned on when the power check is completed. COM Displays the status of the Genius communication bus. This indicator light is always on, indicating that the bus is running well.
