The GE Fanuc IC693CHS398 is a 5-slot expansion baseboard. The device is designed for GE series 90-30 modules. As with the 10-slot version (IC693CHS392), there are some features and guidelines to consider when using this baseboard. First, the remote backplane cannot be a separate unit. Instead, it must be connected to a system with a CPU. The CPU can be part of a programmable logic controller (PLC) or it can be located in a personal computer. However, the PC must have a personal computer interface card. Second, the total number of interconnect cables between the CPU backboard and the expansion backboard must not exceed 50 feet.
The type of CPU in your system will determine the number of remote backboards that can be used. For cpus 331, 340, and 341, up to four remote backboards can be used. For all cpus numbered 350 and higher, the maximum number of boards is 7. The system's remote backplane does not support the following option modules - PCM, CMM, ADC and BEM330. To use these modules, they must be installed on the CPU backboard. All other optional modules and I/O modules can be installed on any type of backboard.
The remote backplane is the same size as the extension backplane. They also use the same type of power supply and support the same I/O modules and option modules. On each remote baseboard on the right there is a 25-pin D-type female expansion connector that connects to other baseboards. Each 5-slot remote baseboard has a rack-number select DIP switch. All expansion modules must be connected to the common ground during installation.
