The IC25CHS10, 693-pin Type D 392 slot I/O bus expansion backboard has a variety of uses. It is basically used as a PLC local chassis, but can also be used to expand I/O to other nearby locations that are no more than 50 feet (15 meters) apart (called local I/O expansion). Local I/O scaling allows users to increase the I/O of the PLC and enhance control under the supervision of a single processor. There is no CPU on the mainboard. For small PLC systems where I/O is close to the local chassis, local I/O expansion is a good choice.
The IC693CHS392 expansion baseplate has a 25-pin type D female I/O bus expansion connector mounted on its right end. This connector is used to connect to other baseboards. It has 10 slots, marked serial from 1 to 10. The base plate cannot be independent. It must be installed on the CPU baseboard of a system with a CPU, either in a PLC or in a personal computer with a Personal computer interface (PCI) card. The first expansion substrate is connected to the CPU's backboard via a short parallel cable that provides seamless parallel data transfer between the CPU baseboard and the locally extended I/O backboard. The type of CPU determines the maximum number of expansion boards that can be installed in the system. Cpus 331, 340, and 341 allow up to four substrates, while cpus 350 and later allow up to seven substrates. Power must be supplied to the expansion baseboard, and calculations must be made based on the modules of the baseboard and the local load that will be placed on each baseboard power supply.
