The GE Fanuc IC693CBL302 is an I/O bus expansion cable specifically designed for use in 90-30 series systems. Also known as the star cable, this cable is a particularly special cable in the series because it is equipped with a male connector at both ends of the cable. Each male connector is a 25-pin D connector. The heads attached to the expansion baseplate are terminated male connectors. The IC693CBL302 allows users to extend the I/O bus to remote or extended backboards within the system. Keep in mind that the IC693CBL302 is designed for Sereis 90-30 systems. If the system requires more I/O slots, or the backplane must be located away from the CPU backplane, you need to use a star cable.


The 50-foot cable also features I/O bus terminal resistors that are built into connectors at the end of the cable. Therefore, users do not need to install a separate terminal block in their system when using this cable. In a system with only one expansion backboard, the user can use this cable to end the I/O bus. These end resistors will end the I/O bus. Up to seven star cables can be used in a single I/O expansion system at a time. The total length of the cable between the CPU baseboard and the last expansion baseboard must be less than 50 feet (15 meters). When the I/O expansion baseplate is energized, it is never safe to connect or disconnect a cable. Always disconnect the baseboard from the power supply to connect or disconnect the cable, such as IC693CBL302.


The IC693CBL302 cable is a manufactured I/O expansion cable whose primary purpose is to interconnect different baseboards and expansion ports in a programmable logic controller or PLC system. This special expansion cable is included in the 90-30 series of PLC assemblies manufactured by GE Fanuc. The cable is intended to be used as the last cable of the link in a PLC system. It is the maximum length allowed for the last extended baseboard in the PLC. The maximum total cable length between the CPU backboard and the last remote backboard is 213 meters. If these distances are not calculated correctly, errors may occur during operation, including failed signal transmission or instability. The GE Fanuc IC693CBL302 I/O expansion cable has an I/O bus terminal resistor built into the end connector. The number of cables may vary depending on the CPU type, with cpus numbered from 350 to 374 ratings supporting up to seven different cables, and cpus numbered from 331 to 341 supporting up to four expansion cables. When connecting or disconnecting these cables, do not power the system, otherwise it may cause irreversible damage to the system.
