The IC694CHS398 backplane, manufactured by GE Fanuc, is a serial expansion backplane. The expansion backplane can be connected to the universal backplane in the GE Fanuc RX3i PLC to expand the application functionality of the PLC and allow it to accommodate more I/O modules than the universal backplane itself can accommodate.
